Sad to hear of the passing of one of the longtime teachers. Mr Bob Hill who taught both woodwork and technical drawing at the school from the early 1960s onwards passed away on Aug 26th, 2017.

Attended school from 1964 until June 6, 1966 when I left Shirley and flew to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I remember it was 103 degrees f in the shade at Toronto airport and the North American vehicles were huge!

I was a student at Sharmans Cross Senior school for boys, when the building was on Solihull Road, from 1947 and left in August 1951.One of my teachers was
Mr Adams (Maths and technical drawing)
I was in classes 1A, 2A, 3A
and 4A. I was also a Prefect. With Mr Adam's help I decided to become a draftsman. I attended Aston College on day release from my employment, and Bordesley evening institute for 3 nights a week. My education allowed me to become a Chief Draftsman, and Works Manager, before my family and I left England in 1973 and became settled in the USA. I continued my craft and proceeded as a Project Engineer and finally became a Mechanical Engineer and designed Special Purpose Machines. I retired to Florida,
in 2003, and enjoy the sunshine state, near the Gulf side of Florida. I was Hoping that fellow students at my time in Sharmans Cross were still around and may wish to contact me. All the best to fellow students who attended this great school.

Would anyone have old school photos to share. I am in touch with Judi and she has been in touch with Merryl. Would love to hear from you. Regards margaret Allen now Seitl

updated - memory coming back to me !
I was there between 1973 and 1978. My mates were Andy Rickets, Andy Harrison, Howard Davis, Christopher Mottram, Ian Wright, Anthony Leighton (I think was his name). Girls - Trudy Beckley, Mandy Smith, Denise Hambridge, Gillian? .. Favourite teachers were Malcolm Peckover (biology), Anne Vickerman (maths and sport), Mick Knight (English), and John Mellor (sport) and I rated the Head - Mr McLauchlin? The photos brought back many happy memories and some slightly painful ones. I had to move to the North of England straight after the 5th form and this cost me some great friendships. having since then moved around all over - I have never been back since and only recently learned what happened to the school. I remember the bike sheds - kept the purple "chopper" I built myself there, found it wheel-less on more than one occasion :) I also remember the smell of the woodwork classrooms and that seemingly always wet, cold playing field :D

Lisa Mills-I remember you! Never was there such a popular name-at least 3 if not 4 Lisa's in every class.

Alan Atkins is your name, wasn't he Head Boy? And Lloyd

I've remained nearby all my life and can't believe i have never seen a single person from our school. Except, I was at a Ballroom dancing class when I was paired with this guy who was a dream to dance with. Apart from it being the best partnering I'd experienced at that time, I thought nothing of it, until a further couple of meet ups at class when out of the blue, bang in the middle of the night actually, I sat bolt upright in bed exclaiming "Roddaz"! It was David Rodney that I had been dancing with (wasn't he Head Boy). And he hadn't breathed a WORD! I wondered if I'd aged that badly. So next time I saw him I slipped in "so did we go to school together . . . ?" "Lisa Harding?" he replied . . . I recognised you the first time I saw you! Ahhhhhh, so embarrasing I didn't recognise him

Left about 1969. Mostly had an ok time. Some of the teachers were borderline psychopaths. Others were excellent. Hard to believe a lifetime has gone by.
